Peoples and Stories of Manitoba
Created to support Grades 4 and 5 Social Studies, Manitoba.
The three websites relate stories of people and events that shaped Manitoba. In the Kids' Site of Canadian Settlement website, students can learn about Aboriginal peoples and immigrants who contributed to the history of Manitoba (early Europeans, Métis, and Plains Cree). A series of activities helps students to appreciate Canadian culture today through understanding how European settlers and Aboriginal people interacted with one another. The Confederation for Kids: Introduction to Confederation website explains how Canada developed as a nation. Students can learn about Manitoba before it entered Confederation. The Aboriginal Perspectives website helps students understand issues related to Canada’s Aboriginal peoples. Students can watch the video "Riel Country," featuring Métis and Francophone teens living in St. Boniface.
