First Nations: History and European Representation

Created for Grades 6-12 Social Studies/History.

The selected websites are about First Nations throughout Canada. The websites Images Canada, The Peter Winkworth Collection, The EvidenceWeb, and The Journals of Norman Robinson help students reflect on the European representation of the life and culture of First Nations through drawings, paintings, and diaries. On the Confederation for Kids and The Kids' Site of Canadian Settlement websites, students can learn about Aboriginal peoples and their interactions with Europeans, and how Canada developed as a nation. The websites Historical Timeline of the Northwest Territories, A Cultural Journey Through the Northwest Territories, Journey to Kitigaaryuk, and An Archaeological Expedition to Kuukpak help students develop an appreciation of the Aboriginal peoples of the Northwest Territories and their relationship with the land.
